If your backyard, patio or wherever it is that you barbeque has space constraints, you will love this grill. With a width of just 42 inches and also side shelves that fold down easily, you can easily slide this bad boy into the kind of tight space that a washer or dryer would take. The grill comes with wheels that you can use to wheel the grill across the floor with, in any direction, with great ease. If your patio isn’t big enough to accommodate a grill, you can use the wheels to slide the grill across to your patio for the cookout, and then push it back to its storage space somewhere else around the house.
This grill uses a propane tank that you can neatly slide into the single door compartment below the grill. Or, you can hook it up to your home’s natural gas connection. The choice is completely yours. The grill comes with natural gas orifices although you will have to buy a natural gas hose and regulator separately, as they are not bundled along with this grill.
Another standout feature of this grill is that it is equipped with infrared technology. If you didn’t know why a grill that uses infrared technology stands out from a regular grill, here’s a quick explanation.
In regular grills, meat or vegetables are cooked through a process called convection. This is a process where hot air is used to transfer heat from the grill to the food that is placed on it.
An infrared grill on the other hand, like this Nexgrill 2 burner evolution model, uses gas to heat a solid surface that then radiates the heat through infra-red waves onto food placed on top of the solid surface. The resulting cook is a much more evenly spread cook.
An infrared grill like this Evolution 2 burner grill from Nexgrill will generally have to be preheated for about 5 minutes. But, once preheated, it can help you cook steaks in as little as just 2 minutes per side, giving you a sear that doesn’t dry out the meat, thanks to a very even cook.
While infrared plates are nothing new to grills, what’s different about the Nexgrill 2 burner infrared plate is that it can be turned over, after putting some wood chips on the grill and then placing the inverted infrared plate on it. This allows the grill to release a superb smoked flavor that you can typically only get if you use a full-fledged smoker. The infrared plate on this Nexgrill 2 burner gas grill is also designed to prevent flare ups. If you use meat marinated in oils, you probably know how dangerous the flare ups can be, when you place the meat on a super-hot grill. When you use the infrared plate, you will not have these flare ups at all, for the heat rises through the plate slowly at first, and then very evenly and rapidly.

Anyways, coming back to the other features of the Nexgrill 2 burner Evolution grill, you will be excited to know that the burner on this grill comes with a very satisfactory 8 year warranty. The grill and the grate, however, have only 1 year worth of warranty on them although that is the norm for most grills in the price range that this Nexgrill 2 burner grill sells for, at about $229.
Besides the porcelain cooking grids, you also have an upper-level warming rack that is just perfect for storing your buns or rolls, to keep them toasty before you plate them up with the meat and vegetables that you are cooking.
This grill requires assembly. But, don’t let that scare you away from a purchase. The only tool you will need to carry out a full assembly is a screwdriver. The instruction manual for the assembly does not contain text but rather gives you pictorial instructions on how to put the grill together, bit by bit, picture by picture.
If you are handy with tools and have assembled other appliances or furniture or fixtures before, assembly shouldn’t take you more than a couple of hours.
When it comes to performance, the grill is very quick to heat up. You can expect to reach about 400 degrees F in just 3 minutes, which is pretty impressive for a grill this size. There’s a catch tray that you can access from the back of the grill, sliding it out to remove it. You can remove, clean and slide it back in, to ensure that grease that drips down goes nowhere else in the grill.
Though this is just a 2 burner grill, there’s enough space to put a whole chicken on a split. You can’t quite put a whole turkey in here though, something that you can do in a Nexgrill 5 burner or 4 burner grill, as mentioned in our Nexgrill 5 burner gas grill review and Nexgrill 4 burner gas grill review.
The Nexgrill 2 burner gas grill has a classy aluminum finish and is one of the best looking grills in the $200 price range. Don’t be surprised if your guests ask you if you paid $500 or more for this grill. Just take some care to use a stainless steel cleaner like Zep and you will have this grill looking like new for several years.
If there was one drawback with this grill, it could be said that the manufacturers have forgotten to give it hooks on which you can hang grilling utensils like tongs or spatulas.
This Nexgrill Evolution 2 burner gas grill is an excellent choice of grill if you plan to use a grill to cook food for a small group of 2-3 people. You will particularly like this grill if you want infrared technology or can appreciate food cooked on an infrared plate. However, if all you need is a grill for just one person, we will recommend that you read our Nexgrill tabletop grill review, to learn more about Nexgrill’s most compact grill that is more than enough for 2 people.
